Paatu Cassette

Library

Your music folder, as it is

Point Paatu Cassette at your music folder. Nothing is imported, moved or renamed: it reads your tags and builds a fast library around your files.

A player that respects your files

Many music apps want to copy your songs into their own library, or only play what they can stream. Paatu Cassette works the other way round: your folders are the library. Organise them however you like in Finder, and the app follows.

Albums are grouped by album tag and album artist. When there’s no album artist, as with many film soundtracks, the folder keeps the album together, and CD1 / Disc 2 subfolders roll up into one album.

Built for big collections

  • Incremental rescans: only new or changed files are read again, so even tens of thousands of songs stay quick.
  • Missing drives are handled gently: songs on an unplugged drive are marked missing, not deleted, and come back when you reconnect.
  • Find Duplicates lists songs that share a title, artist and length, so you can tidy up in Finder.

FAQ

Music library: questions

Does Paatu Cassette copy my music?

No. It reads your songs where they are and never moves, renames or deletes them. Only the tag editor writes to files, when you ask it to, and it backs up the original tags first.

Can I use music on an external drive?

Yes. Add the folder on the drive. If the drive is unplugged, its songs are marked missing and return when you plug it back in.
