Paatu Cassette

Getting started

Choose your music folder and build your library

Point Paatu Cassette at your music folder and press play.

The first time you open Paatu Cassette you see Welcome to Paatu Cassette. The app needs to know where your music lives.

  1. Click Select Music Folder and choose the folder that holds your songs, for example your Music folder or a folder on an external drive.
  2. Or drag the folder from Finder straight onto the window (Drop your music folder to start).
  3. Paatu Cassette reads your files. The bottom of the sidebar shows Looking for music…, then Reading N of M and Organising albums…
  4. When it’s done, a message tells you how many songs are in your library. Click any album and press Play.

What gets added

  • Songs in MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, WAV, AIFF and OGG files, in the folder and all its subfolders. (OGG playback depends on your version of macOS.)
  • Albums are grouped by the album tag and album artist. Film soundtracks with no album artist stay together as one album, and CD1/Disc 2 subfolders roll up into their album.
  • Cover art inside your files is shown everywhere.

After the first scan

You don’t need to rescan by hand. Paatu Cassette watches your folders, so songs you copy in, change or delete are picked up within seconds. To add more folders, see Add and remove music folders.
