Open Music Directors in the sidebar to see every composer in your library with their song and album counts. Click one to play or shuffle all their songs.

Where music directors come from

• The composer tag in your files, when it’s there.
• Otherwise, the album artist. Tamil film soundtracks usually credit the music director as the album artist, so this fills in most of a film collection automatically.

Turn the fallback off

If your album artists are singers or bands rather than composers, open Settings › Tags & Music Directors and untick Use the album artist as the music director when a file has no composer tag.

Use it in smart playlists

Music director is also a rule in smart playlists, so you can build a playlist of one composer’s 1990s songs in a few clicks.
