Copy songs to a pen drive or car USB
Put a playlist on a USB drive in order, ready for the car.
Car stereos and speakers play files in name order, so Paatu Cassette numbers the songs (01, 02, 03…) to keep your running order.
Option 1: Export to Folder (recommended)
- Plug in your pen drive.
- Open a playlist, mixtape, Favourites or Recently Played and click Export to Folder… (or right-click an album, folder or song and choose it there).
- Choose the pen drive. Paatu Cassette creates a folder named after the playlist with files like 01 - Title.mp3 and a playlist file (.m3u).
- Watch the progress at the bottom of the sidebar (Exporting N of M). You can cancel with ×.
- When it’s done, click Eject (drive) and unplug it.
- It checks there’s enough free space before it starts.
- File names are made safe for FAT32 and exFAT drives, which most car stereos use.
- Exporting again only copies new songs, so updating the drive is quick.
Option 2: Copy and paste
- Click Copy Files on a playlist (or Copy File / Copy N Files from a menu).
- Open the pen drive in Finder and press ⌘V. A folder with the numbered songs appears.
